Finding God in the Mundane

I recently was working out on the elliptical and listening to worship music as I usually do.  The Lord interrupted me to remind me that He is in the mundane. So profound. It hit me like a load of bricks.

In the early morning before work when I am making tea and trying not to burn my hands on the hot pad. He is there

In the night, when I wake up fighting off allergies or anxiety about the coming day. He is there

When I am doing laundry. He is there

When I am cooking dinner for my husband. He is there

When I am cleaning up my paint messes. He is there

When I took care of my mother in law who was dying of cancer. He is there

How humble is He to be so mindful of us and engaged in our lives? The God of the universe is just waiting for me—for us— in the mundane. The mundane places are sometimes where we feel the most lost, lonely, and abandoned—but how far from the truth it is. He is there, and it’s so amazing and so encouraging that He cares so much to be with us in these moments.

This life seems so simple and insignificant at times, but He is the One who makes it so important. It’s Him. It’s His presence. It’s His love for us.

So enjoy your mundane, boring, simple moments, because you aren’t alone.

Poetry and Art

I love both visual and poetic art. Here is my attempt of joining the two together.

The ocean reminds me so much of God’s love. Being at the beach has always felt like a tangible way to feel God’s love. The wind in your hair, the sand rubbing your toes, the sounds of the waves breaking, and the smell of the salt in the air. It’s always an experience that fills my weary, tired soul after long days of labor and toil. Here is a painting that reminds me of the waves of the ocean, and a poem about the ocean of God’s love. I hope both immerse you in the love of the Savior.

Ocean of Love
I find myself in these waters
Moving about in your strength
Speaking to these pages with your voice
And finding myself all over again
The strength of the waves
The movement of your heart
The voice of your song
Rested I am in your love.
